Recall that Zhadkovsky granite is often called Koretsky. This is due to the fact that the quarry of this stone is located near the village of Zhadkovka, Koretsky district, Rivne region. The stone blocks from this granite have pleasant and quiet red color. Compared to fully split, sawn-split paving stones from Koretsky granite are made with sawn sides on all sides. The upper and lower planes of each paving stone look like a natural rock. Paving stones, which are produced in this way, are called “from a pencil”. This “nickname” was given because of the production process. At the very beginning, paving blocks of Zhadkovsky granite are sawn on massive milling machines into relatively heavy slabs 10 cm thick. After that, these slabs are transferred to multi-disc stone-cutting machines with smaller diamond saws. As a result, we get long granite parallelepipeds with a section of 10×10 cm, which are called pencils. Subsequently, we split long workpieces on hydraulic presses. It is precisely because the press knives are much more evenly adjacent to the sawn granite surface that the front chip of each paving stone comes out quite even.

As a result of all of the above, sawn-split paving stones have many advantages over full-split paving stones:

  • Sawn-split granite paving stones are much smoother;
  • The sides are absolutely smooth – this ensures a straight seam;
  • The stitching seams are perfectly even.

Installation of sawn-split granite paving stones Rosa Raveno 100x100x50mm

In fact, we have only two ways of installing pavers: on a static, waterproof base and on a dynamic, draining base. Static – concrete base, used on sites with a constant massive load, or on narrow paths. With a paving width of up to 5 m, the deformation of the edge of the pavement path will be unambiguous. Draining – dynamic foundations, used for large spaces where it is difficult to make drainage channels.

Laying granite sawn-split stone blocks “Zhadkovka” on a solid base

A static concrete base is an ideal engineering solution for small spaces (up to 1000 m2). Such foundations are correct on narrow pedestrian sidewalks. They guarantee durability. The thickness of reinforced concrete should be within 7–15 cm. With this method, granite paving stones are mounted in a dry cement-sand mixture. The recommended ratio of cement and sand is 1:3 (1:4). The seams between the paving stones are filled with dry DSP. This method is usually referred to as “laying paving stones on the carving”. A relative disadvantage of such a base for our sawn-chopped paving stones from Koretsky granite is the need to provide drainage sleeves to drain water during rain and snowmelt. But this is also easily solved. Our pavers have a base area thickness of 5 cm. Then, using granite 30 or 20 mm thick, you can easily mount drainage grooves 2–3 cm deep.

Laying Zhadkovskaya sawn-split paving stones on a draining base

Project: to pave with red granite paving stones the entire parking lot near the shopping center, with an area of about 10,000 m2. The cost of the concrete base and drainage grooves may exceed the price of the granite pavers you plan to buy. For this reason, it is customary to organize massive paving spaces on a dynamic, draining basis. To ensure the durability of paving from paving stones with sawn smooth edges, the base for it is made multi-layered:

  1. A layer of sand is laid on a flat, planned ground.
  2. Geotextiles are placed on the sand, on which sand is again poured.
  3. Then, to prevent horizontal movement of the base (if the machine brakes sharply on the paving stones), a geogrid is used.
  4. Granite crushed stone is poured into the cells of the geogrid.
  5. The entire multilayer structure is covered with granite screenings.
  6. Our sawn-split stone blocks from Zhadkovsky granite 100x100x50 mm are mounted in granotsev.

Design ideas for red granite paving stones with sawn edges

Our opinion is that the highest manifestation of skill in the design of natural stone is the ability to combine the same granite, but with different surfaces. The front surface of granite can be quite diverse: heat-treated, chipped, polished and sawn.

Zhadkovskaya granite paving stones with a format of 100×100 mm and a thickness of 50 mm are perfectly combined with the same sawn-split paving stone with a size of 200×100 mm. Drainage grooves made of red polished Koretsky granite will look great. Absolutely even strips of heat-treated or the same sawn surface will also be an excellent solution.

Overall, red granite paving stones go well with gray paving stones of the same size from Pokostovsky granite, or black ones from Basalt.
