There are many Gabbro quarries in Ukraine. Lots of people know this stone as “Buki”. However, Gabbro lies not only in the Buki deposits. At present, more than 20 quarries periodically mined that absolutely black stone in Ukraine. For the production of natural split setts, Gabbro mainly small blocks are used. Firstly, they are sawn into slabs – 10 or 20 cm thickness. Then, they are splitted by hard hydraulic presses. For this reason, some splitted cobblestones have one or more sawn sides. This cannot be attributed to a disadvantage:
- using the sawn side of such split stone setts, you can create a different paving design, or just a zebra for a pedestrian crossing;
- secondly, if each stone setts have two sawn sides, then all paving is more flat. In Eastern Europe we call such natural split setts “improved”, because they are installed in neat rows.
